Therapy is a safe and non-judgemental environment where you are able to address an array of personal feelings, behaviors, concerns any other problematic issue. It is also a time where you are able to learn and explore yourself on a deeper level. It provides a space where you can come to terms with and resolve wounds and past hurt through multiple therapeutic techniques.
The benefits of therapy can include but are not guaranteed to produce: reduced stress, anxiety, depression, negative thoughts and destructive behaviors. The goal is to improve coping skills, interpersonal relationships, personal insight and acceptance.
Some risks of counseling include: feeling discomfort, anxiety, anger and fear. Discussions of hurtful experiences and events are likely, thus causing unpleasant moments.
There is no set time frame for counseling. It is up to your discretion and should be discussed with your therapist as to when counseling should terminate.
This varies for every person. Often times, you will feel worse before you feel better. A variety of factors play into this: the consistency of attendance, how vulnerable you are during session and the work you do outside of session; just to name a few.
Overall, therapy is confidential. We are unable to confirm or deny that you are a client without having a signed release form on file. However, confidentiality will be breached for the following reasons without consent:
-You are in immediate danger to yourself; threat of suicide.
-You report a plan to harm another; homicide.
-You report or there is a suspicion of abuse of children, the elderly, or someone who falls into the vulnerable population which included prenatal exposure to controlled substances.
